Cyrus posed with Mickey and Minnie Mouse during her session in the resort |
Teenage star Miley Cyrus has pulled out of a red-carpet event at Disney World in Florida, days after apologising for photos showing her apparently topless. The Hannah Montana actress had been due to join dozens of other Disney Channel celebrities at a media party. But she cancelled that appearance and restricted herself to a session signing autographs for children at the resort. Earlier this week the 15-year-old was seen in Vanity Fair magazine wrapped in a blanket with her bare back exposed. She said she felt "so embarrassed" after taking part in a photo shoot which was "supposed to be 'artistic'". "I apologise to my fans who I care so deeply about," she said in a statement. The Disney Channel, which has a large teenage following, accused Vanity Fair of trying to "deliberately manipulate" Cyrus to increase sales. But celebrity photographer Annie Leibovitz, who took the pictures, defended the images - and she had the backing of the magazine in doing so. The singer, her parents and her handlers approved of the images during the photo shoot, Leibovitz said. In Hannah Montana, Cyrus plays a girl who leads a double life as a teenager and a pop star. The TV show was turned into a film - Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds - which went to number one at the North American box office in February.
