A TV show starring Hollywood actor Hugh Jackman has been cancelled after just two episodes due to low ratings.

Viva Laughlin made its debut with 8.4 million viewers, compared to the 21.2 million that watched the show preceding it, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.

Viewing figures for the second show fell to just 6.8 million.

The programme, based on the BBC series Viva Blackpool, will be replaced by a reality TV show, according to US TV network CBS.

CBS initially had high hopes for Viva Laughlin, about a gambler who opens a casino but winds up in the middle of a murder investigation.

However viewers mostly stayed away from the show that included characters who sang, and sometime danced, along to hit songs to advance the plot.

The TV network is still determining what to do with the remaining episodes of the series, such as streaming them online or placing them on a cable outlet.
