The X Factor beat Strictly Come Dancing in the Sunday night ratings war after an average of 7.4 million people tuned in to watch the ITV talent show. According to overnight figures, 6.8 million watched actor Brian Capron being voted off the BBC One dance show.
On Saturday, both shows attracted audiences of some 7.5 million viewers.
The X Factor initially drew more viewers, but Strictly Come Dancing enjoyed a larger audience share and peaked with an audience of 8m.
Sibling singers
Capron, best known for playing serial killer Richard Hillman in ITV soap, Coronation Street, and Scottish rugby star Kenny Logan both had to repeat their waltzes for the judges.
In the X Factor, Simon Cowell selected girl band Hope, who were assembled from a group of rejected auditionees and are already a strong favourite to win the show in December.
He will also mentor boy band Futureproof and sibling singers Same Difference.

Dannii Minogue put through another hot favourite, 22-year-old soloist Andy Williams, alongside 18-year-old Leon Jackson and tenor Rhydian Roberts.
Osbourne, who is tutoring girls aged 14-24, selected Alisha Bennett, Kimberley Southwick and Emily Nakanda to represent her in the final stages of the competition.
Music mogul Louis Walsh was given responsibility for the over 25s, and put through Beverley Trotman, Daniel De Bourg and Niki Evans - who applied for the show after finding an entry form in her father's belongings after he died.
Marital showdown
Strictly Come Dancing kicked off its fifth series on Saturday by introducing its seven male contestants.
Footballer John Barnes received the highest score of the night - 26 - for his cha cha cha with dance partner Nicole Cutler.
Capron fared less well, with judge Arlene Phillips comparing his waltz to "a wake".

The other male contestants include snooker player Willie Thorne, EastEnders star Matt Di Angelo, Blue Peter host Gethin Jones and TV presenter Dominic Littlewood.
Logan is going up against his wife, sports presenter Gabby, who is also a contestant.
Also taking part are former EastEnders star Letitia Dean, actress Stephanie Beacham and Rod Stewart's wife Penny Lancaster-Stewart.
Actress Kelly Brook and R&B singer Alesha Dixon are also in the line-up, as is GMTV presenter Kate Garraway - who was forced to sit out the first episode after sustaining a dance-related injury.
