Former American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson is heading back on the road in the US after scrapping a tour earlier this year due to slow ticket sales.

The Grammy-winning singer revealed she will kick off a theatre tour at New York City's Beacon Theater in October.

The 24-date jaunt will wind down in Nashville on 4 December.

Clarkson said in a statement: "I'm getting pumped to get out there and rock with y'all. We intend to blow the roof off these theatres."

The singer endured a difficult summer after splitting with her manager amid friction with her record label over the direction of her third album, My December, but it went on to enter the US album chart at number two.

In July, Clarkson cancelled a string of arena concerts after sluggish ticket sales and organisers said they planned to re-evaluate the size of the tour.
