Wilson is expected at the Venice Film Festival |
US actor Owen Wilson has dropped out of his latest film, following claims he attempted suicide, according to reports in the Hollywood Reporter and Variety. The 38-year-old star had a cameo role in ensemble comedy Tropic Thunder.
Reports claim director Ben Stiller has agreed Owen will no longer take part. Studio Dreamworks declined to commment.
Meanwhile, British actor and co-star Steve Coogan has denied claims made by singer Courtney Love that he is to blame for Wilson's health problems.
'Unhelpful and hurtful'
Love, 43, who once dated Coogan, told a US magazine she was concerned the British star's lifestyle had been partially responsible for Wilson's health scare.
Speaking to Us Weekly, she said: "Under normal circumstances I wouldn't comment but I care too much about Owen".
In a statement Coogan, 41, who is best known for his role as TV's Alan Partridge said: "These accusations are unfounded, unhelpful and hurtful to all concerned."
"My thoughts are with my friend Owen at this difficult time."
Coogan and Wilson were also due to co-star in Tropic Thunder |
Coogan, who became friends with Wilson while making Hollywood films Night at the Museum and Around the World in 80 Days, said he was seeking legal advice.
On Tuesday, Wilson released a statement asking the media to allow him to "heal in private during this difficult time".
A spokeswoman at Los Angeles' Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where Wilson was treated on Sunday, told the AP news agency the star was in a "good condition".
No official explanation has been given for Wilson's recent spell in hospital.
The actor has appeared in a string of hit Hollywood comedies, including The Wedding Crashers and You, Me and Dupree.
He is due to travel to the Venice Film Festival for the premiere of his latest film, The Darjeeling Limited, which is expected to open in the US on 29 September.
