One reviewer wrote Richards appeared "a bit confused" |
Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards has demanded apologies from two Swedish newspapers for publishing bad reviews of one the band's recent gigs. "Never before have I risen to the bait of a bad review. You owe our fans and us an apology," the rocker said in a letter to concert promoters.
Expressen used the headline "Keith was super drunk", and gave the 63-year-old zero stars for his performance.
Aftonbladet's reviewer has refused to apologise for his "subjective opinion".
'Write the truth'
Richards' letter, which was published in Swedish daily Dagens Nyheter, continued: "There were 56,000 people in Ullevi stadium who bought a ticket to our concert - and experienced a completely different show than the one you 'reviewed'.
"How dare you cheapen the experience for them - and for the hundreds of thousands of other people across Sweden who weren't at Ullevi and have only your 'review' to go on.
"Write the truth. It was a good show," he added.
Aftonbladet music reviewer Markus Larsson, who gave the entire concert a two star rating, told the newspaper's web edition that it was Richards who should apologise.
The Stones have now completed their world tour |
"After all, it costs around 1,000 krona (72) to see a rock star who can hardly handle the [guitar] riff to Brown Sugar any more," he said.
Expressen's entertainment editor Dan Panas told Dagens Nyheter: "Our reviewer had one opinion of the quality of the show and Keith Richards has another."
The Expressen headline referred to a comment to the reviewer by a fan who reportedly met Richards backstage before the 3 August concert.
While the newspaper failed to award him a single star, Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger was given four stars for his performance.
The gig was part of the veteran band's A Bigger Bang world tour, which recently wrapped up in London.
