The Pixar studio is teaming up again with the creator of Monsters Inc for its next big animation project, according to trade paper Variety. The new film, Up, will tell the story of a 70-year-old man who fights beasts in the wilderness.
Directed by Pete Docter, the film is due for release in 2009.
Pixar, whose other hits include Cars and The Incredibles, will next release Ratatouille, about a young rat living in a Paris bistro.
Successful franchise
The film is due to come out in the US later this month, with a UK release pencilled in for October.
Next year, the studio is due to release Wall-E, about a robot looking for a home in space.
In 2010, the third instalment of one of Pixar's most successful franchises, Toy Story, is set to hit cinemas. Docter was also involved in the writing both the previous films.
The first film was released in 1995, and took $358m (�181m) in box office receipts around the world. Its sequel appeared four years later.
In 2006, Walt Disney bought Pixar for $7.4bn (�4.1bn), which was regarded as a "near-perfect strategic fit" by business analysts.
