Fans of the show have been lobbying for its return since it was cancelled last month after just one season.

Talks with Skeet Ulrich and other cast members are reportedly under way, with a view to making seven more episodes.

The show is set in a Kansas town whose residents have survived a series of nuclear explosions throughout the US.

Jericho launched last autumn to positive reviews and encouraging ratings.

'Humbled'

After it returned from a three-month mid-season break, however, its viewing figures plummeted.

The decision to cancel the show enraged fans, who responded by sending thousands of pounds of peanuts to CBS executives - a stunt inspired by a line spoken by Ulrich's character.

In a statement, Nina Tassler, president of CBS Entertainment, said the network had been "humbled" and was hoping "to develop a way to provide closure to the compelling drama that was the Jericho story".
