 | Lily Allen helped design six dresses for New look |
Singer Lily Allen has launched her own brand of clothing for the high street fashion chain New Look. The 21-year-old, known for pairing prom-style dresses with trainers, designed six dresses for the store.
"I think my dresses are different, they're a bit more girly, they're not really cutting edge fashion, they're more fun, party dresses," she said.
It came a week after model Kate Moss launched her own clothing line for rival chain Topshop.
Allen, who performed her debut single Smile at the central London launch, said she was not bothered about whether the designs would sell.
"They asked me to make six dresses that I would wear, so that's what I did," she said.
"It's their problem if they sell them or not," she said.
Flowery jewellery
The collection features dresses in sizes six to 18, high-heeled shoes, patterned trainers and flowery jewellery.
She said she looked at the 300 dresses in her wardrobe for inspiration and wanted something more than the "usual pretty flower style".
Allen - who has criticised the fashion industry's "size zero" phenomenon in the past - said she hoped her clothes appeal to all ages and would encourage young girls to be themselves.
"A lot of girls are naturally skinny, I'm not attacking them, however it's that thing - turning every magazine page and seeing the same body shape the whole time," she said.
"It just makes us think that if you're not like that then there must be something wrong with you, and that's the wrong image to portray."
Allen recently postponed part of her US tour saying she was too tired to continue and wanted to work on her second album.
