The Arctic Monkeys have gone straight into the US chart at number seven with their album Favourite Worst Nightmare. They sold 44,000 copies of their second album - surpassing the 34,000 first-week sales of their first record, which peaked at number 24 last year.
The quartet have recently been touring the US, including an appearance at California's Coachella Festival.
Avril Lavigne's The Best Damn Thing is at the top of the US album chart, with R&B singer Joe a new entry at two.
The Arctic Monkeys' US success follows a number of UK acts who have made an impact on the US charts, including Amy Winehouse, Corrine Bailey Rae and Joss Stone.

Stone made her debut at number two with album Introducing Joss Stone last month, while Bailey Rae reached number four and Winehouse peaked at seven. The Monkeys' latest album is the first US top 10 success for UK independent record label Domino.
In the UK, the Arctic Monkeys sold almost 228,000 copies of their album in its first week of release, outselling the rest of the top 10 combined. Mark Ronson's Version, at number two, sold 31,400.
All 12 tracks from the new album plus five from the band's debut, Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not, are in the top 200 singles chart thanks to the popularity of downloads.
