Julian Barnes and Salman Rushdie are among eight authors shortlisted for the Impac Award, the largest financial prize for a single literary work. Barnes's Arthur & George and Rushdie's Shalimar the Clown are nominated alongside works by South Africa's JM Coetzee and US author Cormac McCarthy.
Ireland's Sebastian Barry, Norway's Per Petterson, US star Jonathan Safran Foer and UK's Peter Hobbs complete the list.
The 100,000 euro prize (�68,000) will be announced in Dublin on 14 June.

The eight books were whittled down from a longlist of 138 titles nominated by libraries around the world.
Judges on this year's panel include Australian writer Carmen Callil, Lebanese novelist Hanan al-Shaykh and Belfast-born poet Gerald Dawe.
Last year's award was won by Irish author Colm Toibin for his novel The Master.
