EastEnders actor given suspension
Mohammed George (l) as Gus in EastEnders
George's character Gus had a romantic liaison with Sonia Fowler
EastEnders actor Mohammed George has been suspended from the soap for two months following a police caution for assaulting his girlfriend.

The 24-year-old, who plays Gus Smith in the BBC One show, has been temporarily banned with immediate effect.

In a statement, George apologised to the BBC and to viewers of the soap for bringing it into disrepute.

The actor was arrested on suspicion of common assault earlier this year following an incident in north London.

Relationship

Police were advised to issue a caution to George after he apologised to girlfriend Emma Archibald and gave further evidence.

George's character Gus was introduced to EastEnders in 2002.

During his time in Albert Square, the character has had a relationship with Sonia Fowler and was wrongly accused of robbing the local shop.

In the soap, Gus works as a council street cleaner in Walford, and is usually accompanied by his dog Well'ard.
