Scarlett Johansson led the parade flanked by students in drag |
Scarlett Johansson has led a flamboyant student parade to accept the annual Hasty Pudding award from Harvard University's drama department. The actress also pretended to take a spoof version of the SAT exam before being crowned woman of the year.
"This is the closest I'll get to a Harvard degree for sure," she said.
Ben Stiller has been named Hasty Pudding man of the year. The honours are given to actors who make a lasting contribution to entertainment.
Recipients receive a golden pudding pot, a tradition that dates to 1795 when 21 Harvard students pledged that each member of their new club would provide "a pot of hasty pudding" for every meeting.
Freezing weather
Hundreds of people turned out in freezing weather to see 22-year-old Johansson lead the parade through Harvard Square, sitting in the back of a silver Bentley convertible, flanked by students in drag.
The Lost in Translation star told reporters she admired the theatrical troupe for going on with the show.
"I wouldn't be caught dead in a bra and panties on a day like this," she said. "They were really suffering for their craft."
Previous recipients of the award have included Martin Scorsese, Catherine Zeta Jones, Halle Berry and Richard Gere. Stiller will receive his pudding pot next week.
