Reports that a follow-up to comedy hit Borat is in the pipeline are premature, according to a spokesman from the 20th Century Fox film studio. The statement follows earlier comments from studio owner Rupert Murdoch that British actor Sacha Baron Cohen had "signed up to do a sequel for us".
"We're eager to work with Sacha again, and we've had casual discussions about a sequel," said Fox's Chris Petrikin.
But he added: "At this point it remains too preliminary to discuss".
Cohen has reportedly signed a deal with Universal Pictures for a film starring his fashion reporter character Bruno.
Subsidiary
Borat - a mock documentary about a boorish journalist from Kazakhstan who travels to the US - was a box office success on both sides of the Atlantic.
The film won Cohen a Golden Globe for best comedy actor and is up for a best adapted screenplay Oscar at the Academy Awards.
20th Century Fox has been a subsidiary of Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation since 1984.
The success of Borat and other movie releases saw operating profits from News Corp's film division rise to $470m (�241m) in the last three months of 2006.
