Paris Hilton said she had only drunk one cocktail

Hilton, who was not in court in Los Angeles, was also ordered to attend an alcohol education programme.

The socialite and singer, 25, was stopped in her car last September. Police said her blood-alcohol level was 0.08%, the minimum to warrant arrest.

"She's happy that the matter is over," her spokesman said after the hearing.

Shortly after her arrest, Hilton told a radio interviewer she had drunk a single margarita cocktail at a charity event that evening.

Speeding

She denied driving recklessly but conceded: "Maybe I was speeding a little bit."

She was on her way to get a hamburger because she had been filming a music video all day without eating, she added.

The original charge of driving under the influence of alcohol was dropped to alcohol-related reckless driving.

Under Californian law, Hilton's plea of no contest is not an admission of guilt but is the equivalent of a guilty plea when determining sentencing.

"We felt that this deal was appropriate given the circumstances and we're satisfied with the outcome," Los Angeles City Attorney's spokesman Frank Mateljan said.

The terms of Hilton's probation say she must not drive with any measurable amount of alcohol in her system and cannot refuse alcohol tests.
