Rock band Muse have been nominated for three Brit awards
Rock band Muse are headlining the music festival The Big Day Out, which has kicked off in Auckland in New Zealand.

The annual touring event will visit five cities across Australia and New Zealand, including Melbourne and Sydney, closing in Perth on 4 February.

The Killers, Kasabian, Lily Allen, Hot Chip and The Streets will all perform at the event, which began in 1992.

At the festival in 2001, a 15-year-old girl was crushed to death in the crowds while watching US band Limp Bizkit.

Jessica Michalik, 15, suffered a heart attack at the event in January 2001.

During the concert, the band stopped their performance several times while lead singer Fred Durst pleaded with the crowd to calm down.

The band were cleared of any criminal wrongdoing at an inquest in November 2002.

Limp Bizkit later said they would return to play in Australia in the future, but never again at a Big Day Out event accusing organisers of having "a cavalier attitude towards fan safety".
