The Spice Girls' decision to reunite for a series of comeback concerts comes 14 years after the group first formed in response to a newspaper advertisement. Within three years, they had become among the most famous women in the world. March, 1994 Girl group Touch founded after ad placed in The Stage. LETTERSPACING0 KERNING0Victoria Adams Melanie Brown Melanie Chisholm Geri Halliwell and Michelle Stephenson form Touch after answering an ad in The Stage newspaper placed by fatherandson team Bob and Chris Herbert who put them up in a house in Maidenhead Berkshire. LETTERSPACING0 KERNING0 LETTERSPACING0 KERNING0Stephenson was later replaced by Emma Bunton and the group gained a new name the Spice Girls.
April, 1995 Simon Fuller becomes the groups manager. LETTERSPACING0 KERNING0The Spice Girls parted company with the Herberts and signed up with 19 Management run by Simon Fuller who had helped the careers of Annie Lennox and Paul Hardcastle. LETTERSPACING0 KERNING0 LETTERSPACING0 KERNING0Bob and Chris Herbert later went on to mould a successful boy band Five. Bob died in a car crash in August 1999 aged 57.
8 July, 1996 Debut single Wannabe is released. LETTERSPACING0 KERNING0Wannabe featuring a video filmed in one take at London's St Pancras Chambers went on to enter the charts at number three before rising to number one the following week. It stayed there for seven weeks. LETTERSPACING0 KERNING0 LETTERSPACING0 KERNING0A Top of the Pops magazine feature gave the group their nicknames Posh Baby Scary Sporty and Ginger.
October, 1996 Second single Say Youll Be There enters chart at number one.
4 November, 1996 Debut album Spice is released. LETTERSPACING0 KERNING0The huge sales of the Spice Girls' debut album demonstrated the group's enormous popularity. It went on to sell over three million copies in the UK alone and some 23 million copies worldwide.
December, 1996 Third single 2 Become 1 goes to number one.

February, 1997 Geri Halliwells Union Jack dress dazzles the Brit Awards. LETTERSPACING0 KERNING0The Spice Girls won two Brit Awards at their first ceremony but it wasn't their prizes that became the main talking point as Geri Halliwell's figurehugging Union Jack dress hogged the headlines. 15 March, 1997 Posh and Becks meet. LETTERSPACING0 KERNING0Victoria Adams meets David Beckham for the first time in the players' lounge at Old Trafford after Manchester United's 20 win over Sheffield Wednesday.
October, 1997 Fifth single Spice Up Your Life enters chart at number one.
1 November, 1997 Spice Girls meet Nelson Mandela and Prince Charles. LETTERSPACING0 KERNING0South African President Nelson Mandela got a taste of Girl Power when the fivesome visited him and Prince Charles in Johannesburg. "These are my heroes" Mr Mandela quipped.
8 November, 1997 Simon Fuller fired as manager. LETTERSPACING0 KERNING0After making �6m each in a little over a year the Spice Girls dropped the man who helped them on their way to stardom Simon Fuller. LETTERSPACING0 KERNING0 LETTERSPACING0 KERNING0The press reported the rebellion the ultimate expression of Girl Power was led by Geri Halliwell and Mel B. "This is very much the girls' idea" said a spokesman for Fuller. "We wish them the very best of luck in the future."
16 November, 1997 Second album enters the charts at number one. LETTERSPACING0 KERNING0The group's second album Spiceworld made its debut at number one in the UK. LETTERSPACING0 KERNING0 LETTERSPACING0 KERNING0It sold 191000 copies in a week but that was 150000 fewer than Oasis' Be Here Now had sold in its first day earlier that year.

Grant and Stephen Fry Spiceworld The Movie made �6.8m in its first week of release. 25 January, 1998 Victoria Adams and David Beckham announce their engagement.
24 February, 1998 The 102date Spiceworld tour kicks off in Dublin.
15 March, 1998 Run of number one singles comes to an end. LETTERSPACING0 KERNING0Seventh single Stop enters the UK chart at number two ending the band's run of number ones. It is held off the pole position by Run DMC's It's Like That. LETTERSPACING0 KERNING0
31 May, 1998 Geri Halliwell quits. LETTERSPACING0 KERNING0Ginger Spice announces through her lawyer that she has quit the group. "This is because of differences between us" she says in a statement. "I wish to apologise to all the fans... PS I'll be back." LETTERSPACING0 KERNING0 LETTERSPACING0 KERNING0Prince Charles sends the singer a letter saying "the group will not be the same without you". Shares in record company EMI drop by 10p.
26 July, 1998 Viva Forever goes to number one. LETTERSPACING0 KERNING0Eighth single Viva Forever enters the chart at number one. Geri Halliwell still appears in the animated video made by Wallace and Gromit creators Aardman.
24 August, 1998 Spices in crisis as two members fall pregnant. LETTERSPACING0 KERNING0In the middle of the US leg of their world tour the Spice Girls issue a statement to deny rumours they on the verge of splitting after both Mel B and Victoria Adams announce they are pregnant. 20 December, 1998 Goodbye becomes the groups third Christmas number one. 4 July, 1999 Victoria and David Beckham marry in Ireland. LETTERSPACING0 KERNING0Tight security surrounded the couple as they tied the knot at Luttrellstown Castle outside Dublin. Victoria wore a diamondstudded crown for the occasion.
5 December, 1999 Spice Girls named worst group by Smash Hits readers
3 March, 2000 Spice Girls receive the Brits lifetime achievement award LETTERSPACING0 KERNING0The group collect a lifetime achievement prize at the Brits. The award is usually reserved for longestablished acts but British Phonographic Industry chairman Rob Dickins defended the decision to recognise the girl group. 23 October, 2000 First Spice Girls single in two years released. LETTERSPACING0 KERNING0Double Aside Holler Let Love Lead The Way is released in the UK and gives the Spice Girls their ninth and final number one. In the US it struggles to number 107. 8 March, 2001 Mel C says she is not comfortable in the Spice Girls. LETTERSPACING0 KERNING0Mel C tells the Reuters news agency "I don't intend to do any more work with the Spice Girls. Really I've not been comfortable being in the Spice Girls for probably the last two years."
