Hallyday recovering from surgery
Johnny Hallyday
Johnny Hallyday is due to return to the stage on Saturday
French rock star Johnny Hallyday has had surgery to remove a small cyst from under his arm, his publicist has told the Agence France-Press news agency.

The singer, 63, underwent a two-hour operation over the weekend but vowed to be back on the road within days.

Hallyday is France's most famous rock star and has sold 100 million albums during a 40-year career.

He caused uproar last year when he decided to move to Switzerland to escape French taxes.

The singer must now spend six months and a day every year in Switzerland to avoid a tax bill.

Following his surgery, he returned to a recording studio in Paris and is due to resume a 10-month national tour on Saturday.

Born Jean-Philippe Smet, Hallyday is credited with introducing rock 'n' roll to France.
