Contestant Laura Pearce worked her way through the 22 identical, sealed boxes and picked the one holding the prize.

"I was just in shock for days later. It was a great feeling," said the 24-year-old, who was born in South Wales but lives in Gloucester.

The show will be repeated by Channel 4 on Saturday at 1645 GMT.

"All these streamers came down from the ceiling and these rockets went off, and I was quite shocked," Ms Pearce told the BBC News website.

"I think I remember all my fellow contestants coming towards me, and I just jumped out of my chair.

"I think I cried at some point as well."

Career revivial

Deal or No Deal is seen in about 40 countries around the world, and was created by production company Endemol, which is also responsible for Big Brother.

The quiz involves 22 sealed boxes, holding sums from 1p to �250,000

In the UK, the quiz has helped to revive the career of Edmonds.

He was once a BBC Radio 1 breakfast show DJ and has hosted programmes such as The Multi-Coloured Swap Shop and Noel's House Party.

But his appearances on Deal or No Deal - during which he discusses tactics during telephone conversations with an anonymous figure known as The Banker - have earned him a National Television Award in the past year.
