Pavarotti has retired from performing in stage operas |
Luciano Pavarotti will not be attending the awards ceremony in Italy where he was expected make his first public appearance since having cancer surgery. It was thought the opera singer would attend the Bergamo music festival to accept an award on Wednesday.
But the 71-year's old's manager, Terri Robson, said he would not be appearing in public until a charity event being held next year.
She also said the singer "couldn't be happier with his results and progress".
Ms Robson said that Pavarotti had continued to work throughout his treatment.
Farewell tour
"He has also been preparing for a new recording and is very much looking forward to continuing his worldwide farewell tour next year."
Pavarotti was due to be honoured with the Donizetti Prize in recognition of his interpretations of the opera composer's works throughout the world.
His farewell tour had to be postponed after doctors found a malignant pancreatic tumour.
The twice-married father of four had surgery and cancelled all his remaining concerts.
He made his debut in Italy in 1961 and built a reputation as one of the world's great opera singers.
Along with Placido Domingo and Jose Carreras he achieved global fame as one of the Three Tenors.
