Celebrities from the worlds of entertainment and fashion have designed their own postcards to help raise money for breast cancer charities. Stars such as Geri Halliwell, Ronan Keating, Robbie Williams and one-time rock rivals Blur and Oasis have personalised cards for Operation Postcard.
The celebrity cards will be put into a lucky dip at London's Harrods store on 2 February, where paying guests will have the chance to win a piece of mystery artwork. Others involved in the creative fundraiser, which will benefit Gilda's Club London and The Lavender Trust charities, include entertainer Michael Barrymore and actress Joan Collins. Formula One racing drivers David Coulthard and Johnny Herbert, the England Rugby World Cup players, and the Prime Minister's wife Cherie Booth QC, will also be submitting their designs for the event. Of the designs contributed so far, some are simply autographed whilst others are decorated with drawings, poems, recipes, song lyrics, collages and cartoons.
Noel Gallagher has sketched a musical note and a question mark on his postcard, while Patsy Kensit has covered hers with lipstick kisses. Fever Pitch author Nick Hornby has submitted a colourful collage which features cut-outs of Arsenal football scores and record covers. Top designer Jasper Conran's card shows red hearts coming out of a mouth and Blur's contribution is a doodle. A spokeswoman for the project said: "We've been amazed and touched by the hard work people have put into their cards, and some of them have obviously been inspired by personal experiences. "Others are just incredibly funny, but all of them have an intrinsic value." |
