Edmonds won a TV Quick award last month

The Deal Or No Deal host - who is up for most popular presenter and most popular daytime programme for his Channel 4 show - has never won an NTA.

Presenting duo Ant and Dec, who have already won eight awards, are up for a record four honours this year.

The awards will be presented at ceremony at the Royal Albert Hall in London, hosted by Sir Trevor McDonald.

Edmonds, 57, is up against Paul O'Grady, Ant and Dec, Jonathan Ross and Davina McCall for the presenter title.

And he will have to beat The New Paul O'Grady Show, This Morning and TV soap Neighbours to take the best daytime prize.

Ant and Dec are also in the running for most popular entertainment programme for Saturday Night Takeaway, quiz for Gameshow Marathon, and reality programme for I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!.

Strictly Come Dancing, The X Factor, Dancing On Ice and Friday Night with Jonathan Ross are also in the entertainment programme category.

Ant and Dec could end the seven-year run of wins for Chris Tarrant and Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? in the quiz show category.

Other contenders are Have I Got News for You? and Jimmy Carr's 8 Out Of 10 Cats.

Former Big Brother stars Nikki Grahame and Pete Bennett will go head-to-head in the the new TV contender title, set up to accommodate the emergence of "reality celebrities".

Celebrity Big Brother's Chantelle Houghton, and Carol Thatcher - crowned queen of the jungle in I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! - are also nominated.

Coronation Street will be fighting against EastEnders, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks to maintain its most popular serial drama crown.

The NTAs will be screened on ITV1 on 1 November.
