Rock star Sheryl Crow is the latest big name to visit Cambodia to support the campaign against landmines.

The singer, whose hits include All I Wanna Do, flew in with fellow American Nanci Griffith to spend four days in Cambodia - one of the world's most heavily-mined countries.

"My hope is to bring attention to the fact that worldwide 22 people a minute are being killed or maimed by landmines," the star told reporters.

Slimline Vanessa set for new BBC show

Presenter Vanessa Feltz is set to make her comeback with a new television show, it has emerged.

A BBC spokeswoman said: "Vanessa piloted three shows in the autumn and we are close to announcing what her next project will be."

The new series comes some six months after The Vanessa Show was axed due to scandals over fake guests.

Meanwhile, the 37-year-old star has revealed that she has lost four stone following the break-up of her marriage in November.

Model Elle collapses on set of Friends

Australian supermodel Elle Macpherson collapsed from exhaustion on the set of the comedy Friends, it has been revealed.

Australia's New Idea magazine said the model complained of a migraine and "basically no sleep", during filming of her guest role on 5 January.

A producer of the US show told the magazine that Elle, who has a two-year-old son called Flynn, was "burnt out".

"She's trying to be a full-time mum and star but she's found combining the two roles has left her frazzled."

Stone filming love story for his mother

Director Oliver Stone is departing from his usual creative path to fulfil a promise to his mother to film a love story.

Stone, who is in Poland scouting for locations, says his mother had begged him to make a love story for years: "She always loved Gone With the Wind and said I'd do a great love story."

Beyond Borders, which focuses on a romance between two relief workers, will star Kevin Costner. The female lead has been offered to Julia Roberts after Catherine Zeta Jones backed out.

Winslet and DiCaprio: Friends for life

Actress Kate Winslet says she regularly keeps in touch with her Titanic co-star Leonardo DiCaprio, in spite of their busy schedules.

"We talk all the time," said the 24-year-old actress "You can't spend seven months together as intensely as we did, then suddenly walk away. I think I will always be friends with Leo."

Leonardo DiCaprio stars in the film version of Alex Garland's best-selling novel, The Beach, which opens in the UK in February.

Smillie mourns death of mother

Changing Rooms presenter Carol Smillie is mourning the death of her mother, who died after a stroke early in the New Year, it has emerged.

The funeral of Isobel Smillie, 78, took place in Glasgow on Friday.

She died in hospital on 5 January, shortly after celebrating the millennium with her family. Carol, the youngest of four children, was among 50 mourners at the service.

Norton considers Howard Hughes role

Ed Norton has joined the list of actors considering playing Howard Hughes in rival film biographies of the billionaire aviator and film tycoon.

Norton, two-time Oscar-winning director Milos Forman and the writing team that scripted People vs Larry Flynt are all interested in joining up on the project, according to Daily Variety.

Others with Hughes projects in the pipeline include Warren Beatty and Johnny Depp, plus Heat director Michael Mann and Leonardo Di Caprio.

Raquel attacks modern day Corrie

Former Coronation Street star Sarah Lancashire reckons the veteran soap is finding its way again after going off the rails for a few years.

The 34-year-old actress, who played the Street's Racquel Watts and stars in the new BBC One drama Clocking Off, says she is disappointed the show has resorted to covering strong social issues to compete in the ratings war.

"Coronation Street will always be like a curiosity shop, dark and dingy, a wonderful emporium of nonsense with absolutely nothing you want to buy but it keeps attracting you back," she told the Radio Times.

"It's a mythical world and that's the beauty. As soon as you bring it into the 20th century it loses a quality that has kept it alive for so long."
