Jolie's regret over film location
Angelina Jolie
Jolie plays Mariane Pearl in the film
Actress Angelina Jolie has said she is "disappointed" at being unable to shoot her latest film in Pakistan.

Jolie, 31, is about to start filming A Mighty Heart, about US journalist Daniel Pearl who was abducted and murdered in Pakistan in 2002.

But concerns about safety means it has to be filmed in India.

"I am disappointed that we could not shoot the film in Pakistan, a country that I love and have visited three times," she said in a statement.

The statement was released through her adviser Trevor Neilson.

"They talked with people from all levels of the Pakistan government and there's certainly no hard feelings, but it became clear that it was preferable to film in India," he told Reuters news agency.

The film is based on Daniel Pearl's kidnap and murder

Jolie plays Mr Pearl's widow Mariane in the film, which is directed by Michael Winterbottom.

She arrived in Pune, India, on Thursday with partner Brad Pitt, who is a producer on the film, and their three children.

Wall Street Journal reporter Mr Pearl, 38, was kidnapped in Karachi in early 2002 while researching a story, and later killed.

A Mighty Heart is based on the book written by Mrs Pearl in the aftermath of his death.

The film will examine his reasons for being in Pakistan, his abduction and his wife's attempts to find him.

In her statement, Jolie said A Mighty Heart was about "cross-cultural understanding and the values that people of all faiths share".
