Posh holiday after kidnap scare

Happier times: David Beckham and pop star wife Victoria

Posh Spice Victoria Beckham is getting away from it all on a paradise island, hours after it emerged that a plot to snatch her and her baby had been foiled.

The 25-year-old singer is putting the strain of being a kidnap target behind her as she relaxes on Mustique in the Caribbean with her family and son Brooklyn.

A spokesman for the Spice Girl said: "I rang her last night and asked her about it, and she left a message on my voicemail today saying she was aware of the threat, they passed it on to the police, and as far as she is aware it was dealt with."

Beckham's currently playing for Manchester United in Brazil
Posh's soccer star husband David Beckham is with Manchester United in Brazil, where the club is taking part in the World Club Championship.

On Sunday it was disclosed that an elite police unit - Scotland Yard's SO1 organised crime group - helped to thwart an attempt to kidnap the 25-year-old and Brooklyn late last year.

Kidnap attempt

According to reports, the snatch was planned while Beckham played for England in a match at Wembley.

Officers were said to have been so worried that they moved the celebrity family to a safe house in the countryside for 48 hours.

No arrests were made because the kidnappers never got past the planning stage and left no written evidence.

A Scotland Yard spokeswoman said police do not comment on cases involving kidnapping or conspiracy to kidnap.

On Monday, the Daily Star newspaper reported that the Beckhams had hired an ex-SAS man and a former policeman as minders.

Previous threats

Last month, Posh Spice fought off an autograph hunter outside Harrods in Knightsbridge, west London, who she feared was about to snatch Brooklyn.

Also in December, David Beckham won an appeal against an eight-month driving ban for speeding after he said he had been trying to escape a paparazzi photographer who had tailed him for 10 miles from his home in Cheshire.

The judge returned the star's driving licence, ruling there were "special circumstances" that had caused him to break the speed limit.
