'Exhausted' Barry White quits tour
Soul star Barry White Promotional tour: "Love Man" Barry White is heading home

Soul icon Barry White has been forced to cut short his European tour because of "exhaustion", according to his publcist.

The 55-year-old has flown home to California to recuperate, says Kurt Nishimura.

A dozen dates, mostly in the UK and the Republic of Ireland, are affected - including two arena shows in London on 15 and 17 December.

The soul star is touring to promote his new album, Staying Power, and his memoirs, Love Unlimited.

The heavyweight smooth-crooner also had to postpone seven dates on his US tour in August because of ill-health.

At the time he said: "I'm taking my doctor's advice and taking it easy for a few weeks."

Busy tour schedule

In 1995 White was hospitalised for hypertension - again the result of a busy tour schedule in support of his previous hit album, The Icon is Love.

Dubbed "The Love Man" by his fans, multi-millionaire White has had a sting of hits over the past three decades.

He created the Love Unlimited Orchestra in 1972 and the following year they made the single that is considered by many critics the first genuine disco hit: Love's Theme.

White's other big hit of 1974, Never Never Gonna Give You Up, re-recorded by Lisa Stansfield in 1997.
