Liam gives Oasis a scare
Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher Oasis frontman Liam claims to have turned over a new leaf

Oasis lead singer Liam Gallagher is apparently back home after vanishing for 48 hours - just days before the band start a crucial US tour.

The 26-year-old reportedly disappeared from the London house he shares with wife Patsy Kensit and three-month-old Lennon on Friday.

Now, according to the London Evening Standard, the singer has returned home - after Kensit and brother Noel spent much of the weekend ringing round friends.

The weekend drama will ring alarm bells for Oasis' record company Creation because Gallagher pulled out of the band's first US tour in 1996 - 15 minutes before his flight left, claiming he had laryngitis and had to go house-hunting with Kensit.

He rejoined the group in Chicago days later, but then pulled out of a live session for music channel MTV.

Last month Gallagher claimed to have turned over a new leaf since the birth of his son.

He told Q magazine: "I'm a father now. I've had a gap in my life and the baby is here to fill it. I've got to look after him and I want to be there to feel it. I want to be straight-headed about it."

But a friend of Liam Gallagher's - quoted in Monday's Mirror - said: "Everyone thought Liam had got his head together.

"Things had been great for a while - Liam has been the perfect father and husband. But this does not look good. "

Now there are fears that Gallagher may still have problems coping with the pressures of a rock 'n' roll life.

December's American mini-tour is crucial to the future of the band, performing for the first time with their new line-up - guitarist Gem Archer and bass player Andy Bell.

Oasis are also planning their biggest world tour yet next year. It kicks off on 29 February - the day before their fourth studio album, Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants, is released.
