Madonna is hoping to highlight the problem of AIDS in Malawi

"Madonna has not adopted a baby boy as has been previously and incorrectly reported," Liz Rosenberg told the Associated Press.

A government official in Malawi had claimed Madonna was due to file for adoption papers.

The singer prompted more speculation after spending the second day of her African trip visiting an orphanage.

Raising HIV profile

The star, famous for constantly re-inventing herself was greeted by a group of singing orphans who were all given a translated copy of her children's book, The English Roses.

"She is on a private visit to Malawi and is involved in the building of an orphanage/child care centre as well as other initiatives to help the children of that country who have lost parents to AIDS," said Rosenberg.

"I have no information or confirmation regarding Madonna adopting an individual child," she added. "She's kind of adopting an entire country of children."

Orphanage officials said her husband, film-maker Guy Ritchie was also on the trip.

Madonna has two children, Rocco, 5 and Lourdes, 9

"She and her husband are very lovely," said director Anne Chikhwaza. "She has a kind heart, she really wants to help."

The 48-year-old is in the poor African nation to try to help orphaned children living with HIV and Aids.

The mother of two, aims to set up an orphan care centre to provide food, education and shelter for up to 4,000 children.
