The Kinks singer-songwriter Ray Davies has been given a prestigious Icon award from US performing rights organisation Broadcast Music Inc (BMI). BMI says it awards artists and songwriters who have had "a unique and indelible influence on generations of music-makers".
Davies, who completed a US tour in July, received his accolade at London's Dorchester Hotel.
Previous UK recipients include Steve Winwood and Van Morrison.
The 62-year-old Kinks singer, who wrote classics such as Waterloo Sunset, You Really Got Me and Lola, accepted the award in person and paid tribute to his band-mates.
It's always great to be able to accept things like this for the guys in the band as well," he said. "They were great. They were my muse."
He was made a CBE in 2004, a few months after being shot in the thigh while on holiday in New Orleans.
