The RockWalk was set up to honour significant musicians |
Hollywood has honoured the jazz musician Miles Davis on its RockWalk, 15 years after he died. Instead of the usual handprint in cement, a bronze bust of the trumpet player has been put on display outside the Guitar Center on Sunset Boulevard.
For much of his life Davis, nicknamed The King of Cool, battled racial prejudice and drug addiction.
Davis, who picked up a trumpet aged 13, died in 1991. He became well known for morphing jazz into fusion.
He won eight Grammy awards, with albums in his back catalogue including Birth of the Cool, Kind of Blue and In a Silent Way.
Davis has also been inducted into the 2006 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
A film on his life is being planned, with Golden Globe-winning actor Don Cheadle set to portray him.
The RockWalk was established in 1985 to honour musicians who have made a significant contribution to music.
