One of the UK's leading orchestras has launched a monthly podcast, claiming a first for a major ensemble. Ex-BBC Radio 3 presenter Tommy Pearson will introduce musical clips and interviews during each 30-minute show.
Members of the public will be invited to review recent concerts, and each recording will aim to explain how the musicians work together.
Each free podcast can be downloaded through the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra's website.
It features interviews with Stephen Maddock, the ensemble's chief executive, and Sakari Oramo, its musical director.
And in a section called Guide to the Orchestra, two double bass players explain the significance of their instruments in each performance.
"Podcasting offers a direct personal route to classical music fans and novices alike," said an orchestra spokeswoman.
She added that it was hoped the downloads would help to "broaden" the orchestra's audience.
