US film director Spike Lee has said he wants to return to New Orleans for his next project. Lee recently released When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts, a documentary about the city after it was ravaged by Hurricane Katrina.
He told the Hollywood Reporter he was working on a scripted drama which would examine the lives of residents from different social backgrounds.
The project is titled NoLa after the local slang for New Orleans.
"It's a show about the city trying to rebuild itself and the people who are trying to put their lives together," said Lee, who plans to travel to New Orleans to meet residents.
He is also set to executive produce and direct if NBC decides to turn the script into a pilot.
"It's our goal to make great cinema for television," he added.
On Saturday, When the Levees Broke won the best documentary award at the Venice Film Festival.
