The work of Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky is to be celebrated by the BBC in a comprehensive season of his works. Television and radio are joining this winter for a series of concerts which will cover his complete works.
Highlights of TV coverage on BBC Two and Four include Swan Lake from St Petersburg and the Royal Ballet's production of Sleeping Beauty.
Radio Three will devote a week in February to him and Stravinsky.
There will also be a two-part drama-documentary about Tchaikovsky's life and music which will be followed by Discovering Tchaikovsky, a documentary about the BBC Philharmonic working on Romeo and Juliet and Symphony No 6, Pathetique.
Adam Kemp, BBC's commissioner, arts, performance and religion, said: "This is a rare treat for music fans. BBC One, Two and Four celebrate the composer's passionate life and work."
Controller of Radio 3, Roger Wright, added: "Listeners have responded to BBC Radio 3's unique Beethoven and Bach seasons with great enthusiasm.
"We hope that by presenting the complete works of Tchaikovsky and Stravinsky alongside each other, it will enable a more comprehensive exploration of both composers' outputs, providing both insight and unexpected delights."
