R&B star Usher has made his Broadway debut in the hit musical Chicago. The chart-topping star's initial performance at New York's Ambassador Theatre was watched by famous faces including actress Penelope Cruz.
The 27-year-old will begin his official run as slick lawyer Billy Flynn for six weeks from 6 September.
"I'm happy I had a great show. I'm happy to be on Broadway and to sing and dance. I enjoyed it," said Usher, whose hits include Yeah! and Burn.

"I think music is like a monogamous relationship. But acting in the theatre is like a different woman every night," he added.
The singer was called "almost too good" by the show's producer Barry Weissler.
The current Broadway production of Chicago has scooped six Tony awards and featured a number of guest stars since it opened in 1996.
Richard Gere and David Hasselhoff are among the actors who have previously filled the role of Billy Flynn.
