Chaka Khan, Smokey Robinson and Dionne Warwick are to appear as contestants on an American Idol-style TV show which pairs singers with non-musical stars. Each veteran on Celebrity Duets will join with a well-known figure who has far less musical experience.
Their performances will be rated by judges and viewers, who will vote to eliminate acts throughout the series.
Fox TV is launching the show in the US on 29 August. The executive producer is American Idol judge Simon Cowell.
Fox has yet to reveal the non-musical celebrities taking part.
However, Michael Bolton, Macy Gray and Patti LaBelle will definitely be among the established singers who are seen on the programme.
Also confirmed by the producers are veteran chart acts Cyndi Lauper, Aaron Neville and Richard Marx.
Among the judges will be composer and arranger David Foster.
He has worked with Celine Dion and Barbra Streisand in the past.
