The Rolling Stones made more touring in the first half of 2006 than any other band, Billboard magazine has reported. The veteran group made $147.3m (�79.7m) from 45 concerts on their A Bigger Bang tour in the US and elsewhere.
Irish band U2 made $73m (�39.4m) over the same period, while veteran rockers Bon Jovi made more than $65m (�35m).
But with concert attendances up by just 5.4%, the 24.6% increase in takings between January and June has been attributed to high ticket prices.
Postpone
Other acts in the Top 10 biggest earners include Aerosmith, Coldplay and Sir Paul McCartney.
U2 would have made more, said Billboard, had the band not been forced to postpone their tour of New Zealand, Australia, Japan and Hawaii, now due to take place at the end of the year.
The Rolling Stones played Cologne in Germany on Sunday as part of their European tour.
The band was forced to postpone 15 dates earlier this year after guitarist Keith Richards underwent head surgery in New Zealand.
