Doherty has been arrested for drug possession several times |
Pop band Babyshambles have pulled out of a concert in Ibiza to allow singer Pete Doherty to be treated for his drug addiction, the event promoter has said. Andy McKay, promoter of the Ibiza Rocks event in San Antonio on Wednesday, said Doherty was due to enter a rehabilitation clinic on Monday.
The 27-year-old told a court earlier this month that he was to have an implant fitted to help him kick drugs.
He is on a treatment programme after admitting drug possession charges.
"We were all really looking forward to welcoming Babyshambles back to the island this year for Ibiza Rocks but, at the end of the day, we love and support Pete and it's his health and happiness that are important," said Mr McKay.
"He's promised us that he'll celebrate his recovery with a special comeback gig at Ibiza Rocks, so we can't argue with that."
Earlier this month, Doherty told Thames Magistrates' Court in east London that an implant would be fitted to suppress his appetite for drugs.
As part of the review of his treatment, Judge Jane McIvor said that doctors were pleased with Doherty's progress.
In April he was sentenced to a community order with two years supervision and 18 months of drug rehabilitation after admitting seven charges of possessing illegal substances including heroin, cocaine and cannabis.
Two months earlier he received a 12-month community order for seven counts of possessing controlled drugs.
