The stamps feature 10 characters from the DC Comics stable |
A set of US postage stamps celebrating 10 of DC Comics' superhero characters are being issued this week. The set of 39-cent-stamps (21p), featuring Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and others, are being launched at the Comic-Con Festival in San Diego.
Half of the 20 stamps feature portraits of the characters, while the rest show covers from their comic books.
Other heroes commemorated include the Green Lantern, Aquaman, Supergirl, the Flash, the Green Arrow and Hawkman.
The stamps will be officially unveiled on Thursday by DC Comics president and publisher Paul Levitz.
The ceremony will be followed by a panel discussion on the superheroes' historical and cultural legacy.
The designs will also be featured on a range of postal cards costing 24 cents (13p) each.
The US Postal Service has described this as its first set of superhero stamps. A set of stamps celebrating characters from the Marvel Comics stable will reportedly follow in 2007.
