Tessa Jowell said "fantastic locations" were among benefits |
Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell is lobbying Hollywood executives to try to encourage the major studios to make more films in the UK. She is meeting executives from Warner Brothers, Disney and Universal.
This year the government unveiled a new tax relief system aimed at making the UK a more cost-effective film location.
Ms Jowell said the UK was now "one of the most tax sympathetic" places to make films, with the best technical support and "fantastic locations".
"I am unashamedly here to argue for the UK," she said during her whistle-stop tour.
An executive from Disney Pictures said the UK's tax incentives meant the country had once again become a player in the international market for film making.
Tax breaks could translate into millions of dollars in savings in a major production, he said.
As well as promoting the film industry, Ms Jowell is trying to make it easier for British musicians to conquer the American charts.
She said performers currently faced obstacles such as the length of time it takes to get a visa for the US.
The waiting period for musicians, compared to sportsmen and women was too long, she said.
