The Office and Extras creator Ricky Gervais has signed a deal with ITV to televise his best-selling children's book Flanimals. Gervais will voice some of the monster characters and narrate the six 30-minute episodes on Sunday evenings, to be animated using claymation.
"He's got this world completely in his mind," said Paul Jackson, ITV's director of entertainment and comedy.
Mr Jackson said it would be a prime-time show aimed at the whole
family.
The Office and Extras were both successes for the BBC.
Mr Jackson, the BBC's former controller of entertainment, said: "The hottest man in comedy is Ricky.
"He has always been sweet enough to tell me that I was the person that commissioned The Office.
"So when I started this new role he brought me his next project."
