The two-part story, Not For Ourselves Alone: The Story of Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B Anthony, will be shown on the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) network this weekend.

'Priest' Sinead gives up on celibacy

Irish singer Sinead O'Connor, who was ordained as a priest by a rebel Roman Catholic group in April, has confessed that she has failed to live up to her vow of celibacy.

O'Connor, now now known as Mother Bernadette Mary, told Irish television that she took a vow of celibacy when she was ordained near Lourdes in France.

But she added: "I lasted about three months. I failed miserably. I have a man who I have been in love with for years who I go out with."

She said that as a "maverick" priest she cannot say mass in a Roman Catholic church, but she plans to buy a church building and say public masses when she's "ready".

Liu being wooed for Charlie's Angels role

Ally McBeal actress Lucy Liu has been offered the role of the third Charlie's Angel, according to the New York Post.

The 31-year-old, was approached after British actress Thandie Newton was forced to pull out because of filming commitments on Mission Impossible II.

The newspaper says Liu wants the part, but can only sign on if McBeal producer, David E Kelley, gives her a two-month break from the show. However, insiders believe Kelley is unlikely to agree.

Mariah denies 'real life' film role

Chart-topper Mariah Carey is to star in a film whose storyline bears an uncanny resemblance to her own life.

In All That Glitters, she will play a multi-racial singer discovered by a powerful DJ. But Carey insists the story cannot compare to her own relationship with Tommy Mottola, head of Sony Music.

"It's very different," she told USA Today. "The film is more about her getting in touch with herself and her mother. I don't want to be seen as exploiting that whole 'pity me' thing."

Irish honour for Bond star Brosnan

James Bond star Pierce Brosnan will be given the freedom of his Irish hometown, Navan, when he mining town in County Meath next week.

The 46-year-old star left Navan as a teenager to pursue an acting career in America - initially finding fame in the TV series Remington Steele before making his debut as 007 in 1995's Goldeneye.

Council chairman Paddy Fitzsimons said: "Pierce is possibly the best-known actor in light entertainment in the world and we're very proud of him."

Trio of stars set to receive honours

Hollywood stars Barbra Streisand, Harrison Ford and Kirk Douglas are to be honoured at separate US awards ceremonies.

Streisand will receive the Cecil B DeMille Award for "outstanding contribution to entertainment" at the Golden Globe awards in January.

Ford will get a lifetime achievement award from the American Film Institute, while Douglas will follow in son Michael's footsteps when he receives the 11th annual Spencer Tracy award for dramatic achievement from the University of California, Los Angeles.
