Lucas is most famous for the characters he plays in Little Britain |
Little Britain star Matt Lucas is to play Mr Toad in a new TV version of children's book Wind in the Willows. BBC Films will make the one-off drama, in which the comedian will take the role of the rich - and often irresponsible owner - of Toad Hall.
A BBC spokesperson confirmed that the remake of Kenneth Grahame's story would be shown on BBC One.
However, there is no indication of any other cast members or a transmission date as production has yet to begin.
Bafta award-winner Lucas is well known for his character acting.
He has a long association with comedians Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer. It was Mortimer who first spotted Lucas performing a stand-up routine in 1992.
Lucas worked with the duo on The Smell of Reeves and Mortimer and Shooting Stars, before teaming up with David Walliams to parody celebrities and their lifestyles in the TV show Rock Profiles.
Lucas and Walliams then jointly created the three series of hit programme Little Britain, with which they have enjoyed the greatest success.
