Rat film for Incredibles director
The Incredibles
The Incredibles was a huge success for Pixar
The Incredibles creator Brad Bird is taking on a restaurant-dwelling rat for his next project.

He will once again be working for Pixar on the animated film Ratatouille, about a mouse who lives in Paris.

The project had been around for several years and it was originally thought Czech animator Jan Pinkava would be directing it.

Work has begun on the complex animation for Ratatouille and it is due for release in 2007.

Bird was behind the hugely successful The Incredibles cartoon, writing and directing the film which he had conceived 12 years before it came to the big screen.

The film used ground-breaking animation technology.

Bird had previously worked on The Iron Giant and Steven Spielberg's Amazing stories series.

Pixar's next release will be Cars, a film which was pushed back from November 2005 to June this year to capitalise on the US summer holiday season.

Disney and Pixar severed ties in 2004 but the firm has since been bought by Disney in a $7.4bn (4.2bn) deal.
