Cars is back in the top spot after one week in second place
Animated film Cars has returned to the top of the UK and Ireland box office chart in its third week on release.

The Pixar cartoon feature took 1.3m over the weekend - 150,000 more than last week's top earner, Miami Vice.

Pirates of the Caribbean sequel Dead Man's Chest climbed to two in a chart dominated by family-friendly movies.

Lady in the Water, the latest film from Sixth Sense director M Night Shyamalan, made a lacklustre debut, entering the top 10 in ninth place.

Stinging reviews and bad word of mouth combined to see the supernatural fantasy make a disappointing 452,744 between Friday and Sunday.

The other new entries in this week's rundown were computer-animated horror comedy Monster House at four, Jack Black's wrestling caper Nacho Libre at five, and Bollywood release Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna at six.

Pirate's weekend takings of 1.3m helped swell its overall UK and Ireland haul to 46.3m.

This Friday sees the release of Snakes on a Plane, an airborne thriller starring Samuel L Jackson that has generated a wave of internet-based hype on the strength of its title alone.
