Both the BBC and Sky have been shortlisted for their 7 July coverage

News 24 and Sky News are shortlisted for the breaking news award for their coverage of the 7 July London bombings.

ITN, meanwhile, is a contender for the continuing news coverage prize for its handling of the Pakistan earthquake.

The international winners will be honoured alongside their American news and documentary counterparts at a ceremony in New York on 25 September.

"The 2006 nominees are a testimony to the standard of excellence set by international news organisations around the world," said Bruce Paisner of the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

'Enormous pride'

"As more journalists are risking their lives to bring the news to the television screen, we take enormous pride in saluting their work."

The ceremony is one of a series of Emmy events that begins this Saturday with the 58th Annual Creative Arts Awards in Los Angeles.

They will be followed on 27 August by the Primetime Emmy Awards, to be hosted by late-night chat show star Conan O'Brien.
