Ratner's X-Men 3 was warmly received by both critics and public |
1970s conspiracy thriller The Boys From Brazil is to be remade by X-Men: The Last Stand director Brett Ratner. The film, based on a book by Ira Levin, centres on a sinister plot to restore the Nazis through cloning.
The original starred Laurence Olivier and Gregory Peck. Ratner described it as "flawed with a brilliant concept."
He told Variety magazine that the new version would work because "you no longer have to spend time explaining cloning as you did then."
Experiments
The original Boys From Brazil saw Gregory Peck playing Josef Mengele, the doctor at the Nazi concentration camp in Auschwitz who carried out horrific experiments on Jews.
Laurence Olivier was nominated for an Oscar for his role as ageing Nazi hunter Ezra Lieberman.
Director Ratner made his name as director of Rush Hour and also made Red Dragon, the prequel to The Silence Of The Lambs.
The Boys From Brazil remake is said to be his next project after the second Rush Hour sequel, which is set for release next year.
