Etheridge (r) held a commitment ceremony with Ms Michaels in 2003 |
US singer Melissa Etheridge has said she has recovered from cancer and is thinking about having a baby with her partner, actress Tammy Lynn Michaels. "I stand before you a totally healthy person," the 44-year-old said in a US television interview.
Etheridge and Ms Michaels are planning a baby through artificial insemination, according to syndicated TV show Extra.
But the singer ruled out David Crosby - the biological father of her other two children - as a potential sperm donor.
"Been there, done that," said Etheridge.
The singer shares custody of a daughter and son with former partner Julie Cypher, who had the children using a sperm donation from the US rock veteran.
'Love and support'
Etheridge was diagnosed with breast cancer last year, cancelling a tour to undergo surgery.
She credited Ms Michaels - with whom she held a commitment ceremony in September 2003 - as a key factor in her recovery.
"At the end of the whole thing, I came home to a bouquet that said 'in sickness and in health,'" said the Grammy-winning performer.
"The love and support of someone like that is worth all the money in the world."
Best known for her folk-rock style and raspy vocals, Etheridge has sold more than 25 million records.
She released her last album, Lucky, in February 2004 and has a greatest hits collection coming out in October.
