 Conviction is a spin-off of Law & Order |
US network NBC is breaking new ground by offering a new show as a free download 10 days before its premiere, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Conviction is a spin-off of the long-running Law & Order, focussing on a young team of prosecutors.
US iTunes users can download the entire hour-long pilot episode until its TV broadcast on 3 March.
NBC's version of British comedy The Office is currently iTunes' most popular TV download in the US.
Youthful audience
"We believe we have a youthful and energetic cast that should appeal to a new audience increasingly comfortable with this downloadable format as a viewing option, and we want to reach out to these viewers," NBC chief executive Jeff Zucker said.
Among Conviction cast members are Stephanie March, who appeared in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Eric Balfour of Six Feet Under and J August Richards, who starred in Angel.
ABC was the first US network to sign a deal with Apple to allow programmes such as Desperate Housewives to be made available to download to handheld machines.
