The piano being sold by Sir Elton is similar to this one |
Sir Elton John is selling one of his pianos on internet auction site eBay to raise funds for his Aids charity. All proceeds from the sale of the grand piano, which he played during recent live shows and TV appearances, will go to the Elton John Aids Foundation. Sir Elton will also autograph the instrument, which he called Fiona. Foundation director Scott Campbell said buyers would have the chance to bid for a "major piece of music history" when the piano goes on sale on Monday. Bidding for the digital acoustic piano will conclude on 9 March. Health work Sir Elton will play the instrument for the final time at his charity's Academy Awards after-show party in Los Angeles on 5 March. The foundation provides funding for Aids prevention education schemes and patient care services for people living with the illness. Director Mr Campbell said: "The charity auction of this one-of-a-kind piano offers a unique opportunity for a fan or collector to own a major piece of music history while simultaneously raising funds to support the critical work of prevention, education and treatment of Aids." Last October the charity made a donation of more than $40,000 (25,000) to the leading gay rights group in Nepal to help the fight against HIV/Aids.
