Smith played Janet in Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps |
The new sitcom from the writer of the BBC's Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps begins filming next month. Written by Susan Nickson, Grownups revolves around a group of people in their late 20s living in Manchester.
Two Pints actress Sheridan Smith will play Michelle, a 26-year-old singleton trying to reconcile her career with her party lifestyle.
Cheshire-born Nickson was 19 when she began writing Two Pints, which has run for five series.
The first series was broadcast on BBC Two, though subsequent seasons played on BBC Choice and BBC Three before receiving a terrestrial airing.
The fifth series, already screened on BBC Three, will be shown on BBC Two later this year.
The show, which also starred Ralf Little and Casualty's Will Mellor, dealt with the tangled love lives of five teenagers in Nickson's hometown, Runcorn.
Following the fourth series, viewers were asked to vote on whether Little's character should be killed off in the fifth.
